The Irene Makatura Varszegi Memorial Endowment was created by her devoted son Paul-Stephen Varszegi after she died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 95 on April 15, 2020.

The endowment consists of a family property owned by Mr. Varszegi where her mother passed away. The property is valued at between $500,000 to $525,000 according to the most recent appraisal. Mr. Varszegi is relocating the 8-year old military foundation that he began in late 2012 which operates a small office and storage area in Trumbull, Connecticut which was the former national headquarters of U.S. Veterans’ Rowing & Kayaking Foundation. It is the highest rated nonprofit in the town and enjoyed working with many town communities in the state, including Pinewood Lake Association.

“She had impacted and influenced my life in so many ways, that I thought it was fitting to create this endowment which will help support much of our work with injured/disabled Veterans, and now First Responders and care givers,”  - said Mr. Varszegi, her only child and living relative.

“The endowment is the seed we needed to take us to our final stage of international growth and recognition,” stated the Founder and CEO of U.S. Veterans’ Rowing & Kayaking Foundation, a 501c3 charity.

“I wish my dear mother were around to witness all the lives she has impacted through the long years of support for my work with our many disabled Veterans. I am sure she would be gratified, as I have been to see the lives improved and changed. She was a remarkable woman in so many ways and a wonderful role model for me to take after. She inspired everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed,”  - concluded the CEO.
